Football is heralded as the “Beautiful game”, but more often than not, this powerful sports turns ugly and puts a lot of things in perspective.
An Ghanaian elderly woman, by name Agartha Fosua, lost her life after Ghana’s 2-1 loss to the United States of America.
Madam Fosua, reported to be hypertensive, was said to have failed to absorb the shock of the US’ winner, headed in by defender John Brooks four minutes from time. She is said to have collapsed and died.
The 65-year-old has been identified as the mother of a new correspondent of Accra-based Adom FM named Antwi Boasiako.
The news was confirmed by News Editor of Adom FM, Samuel Duwuona, who wrote on facebook:
‘I am very sad to inform you that 65-year-old Agartha Ofosua collapsed and died in the Western Region when Black Stars lost the match on Monday. Agartha was the mother of Adom News Correspondent Antwi Boasiako.
‘She was hypertensive. She was said to have lost it when the second USA goal came. She did not survive the goal.
‘I dont know what lessons there are for all of us in this. But is it worth putting our hearts into this games?’
Ghana’s 2-1 loss against the US on Monday in Natal continues to spark reactions of extreme emotion, as most Ghanaians believe it has effectively ended the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.
