Agony and tears for England’s Lionesses as they crash out of Women’s World Cup after defender Laura Bassett scores a freak own goal in injury time to put Japan through to the final
Laura Bassett, 31, (pictured left and centre) had to be helped from the field by her teammates following a surprise own goal in the final minute of injury time against Japan which saw England crash out of the tournament. two soft penalties in the first half saw England go into half time at 1-1 with the reigning world champions, and they looked like winning the match in the second 45 minutes. However, all their good work was cruelly undone in the dying seconds of the game after Bassett attempted to block a dangerous cross, only to chip the ball over her own keeper.
