Reps discover ‘many anomalies’ in oil block allocation by Nigerian govt

The House of Representatives has threatened to seek the arrest of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele and the Accountant-General of the Federation, AGF, Ahmed Idris over oil licenses.

According to the House, the threat is in respect of the sale of Oil Prospecting Licenses (OPLs) and Oil Mining Leases OMLs to some international oil companies (OICs).

The Chairman of the House adhoc committee on OPLs/OMLs, Gideon Gwani (PDP-Kaduna), issued the threat while briefing journalists on Friday in Abuja.

He said the committee’s mandate was to carry out investigation of all the OPLs and OMLs granted by the Federal Government.                Continue reading

Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, has revealed how his mother stopped him from committing suicide.

In an interview with the Punch, he disclosed that he was once broke and thought about taking his life.

Ibu recalled he was kicked out by a friend he was squatting with and did not eat for three days.

“Do you know that there was a day that I had prepared to kill myself in Ajao Estate? That day, I was prepared to jump into a well because of the situation that surrounded me,” Mr Ibu said.                    Continue reading

Legal challenges are already being presented to Donald Trump’s ban on Muslim asylum-seekers

Lawyers representing two Iraqi refugees have filed legal challenges to President Donald Trump’s executive order barring citizens and refugees from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the US.

The order took immediate effect on Friday and left refugees stranded or detained in airports across the country.

The two Iraqi refugees, who were being held at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, were carrying valid visas and had been granted asylum for their or their families’ work for the US government during the American occupation, which made them targets in their home country.

The refugees’ lawyers “filed a writ of habeas corpus early Saturday in the Eastern District of New York seeking to have their clients released,” the New York Times reported on Saturday. “At the same time, they filed a motion for class certification, in an effort to represent all refugees and immigrants who they said were being unlawfully detained at ports of entry.”                        Continue reading

Four unfortunate students have met thier untimely death in a motor accident along Abuja-Lokoka road.

Four students of University of Abuja,  have died in an accident which occurred on Tuesday night at Gwako village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road, reports DailyTrust.

The incident occurred at about 10:12p.m. yesterday after a Peugeot 406  car coming from Zuba axis veered from its lane and collided with an oncoming trailer. It was gathered that the Peugeot car driver had ran into a deep pothole, lost control of his car and crashed head-on into the unmarked trailer, killing all its four occupants on the spot.
