Pacquiao vows to leave Australia as world champion

Philippine boxing great Manny Pacquiao arrived in Australia ahead of his title fight with Jeff Horn and declared: “I will be going home as world champion.”

The “Pac Man” touched down in Brisbane late Saturday from Manila with a large entourage for his World Boxing Organization welterweight title bout at Suncorp Stadium next weekend.

“In all my years of boxing, I have never been as motivated and fired up as this fight,” he told reporters at the airport.

“My team is very happy with my preparation. I am looking forward to this and I will be going home as world champion.”

Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 knockouts) is a clear favourite against Horn, although the Filipino great has not stopped an opponent since his 12th round TKO of Miguel Cotto in 2009.

Manson follower, longest-serving female inmate, seeks parole

A parole hearing resumed Thursday for convicted killer Patricia Krenwinkel — a follower of cult leader Charles Manson — after officials investigated whether battered women’s syndrome affected her state of mind at the time of the murders nearly five decades ago.

Krenwinkel, 69, was previously denied parole 13 times for the 1969 slayings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four other people in Southern California.

The next night, she helped kill grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in what prosecutors say was an attempt by Manson to ignite a race war.

Commissioners postponed the latest parole hearing in December while officials investigated whether Krenwinkel suffered from battered women’s syndrome.

The hearing resumed Thursday at the California Institution for Women east of Los Angeles. A possible decision by the parole panel to release Krenwinkel could be blocked by Gov. Jerry Brown.                   Continue reading

Fake palm wine factory discovered in Anambra state

Because of the natural state which it is usually tapped and sold in, the drink has several positive effects on the human body. A video has however emerged showing that the drink which so many people enjoy across Africa, was being compromised and may have endangered the health of the people who bought it within that area.
